As I stated earlier. Growing up around street gangs, It was all I knew. My first
involvement with gangs was when I was thirteen. Back then break dancing was in
and we formed it based on that. Eventually it turned out to be a violent street
gang.
I was fortunate my family moved a lot. When I was 17, after quitting high school
and starting a life of a drug dealer, I was arrested for the sale of them. I ended
up doing a few months at a youth correctional institution.(A prison for the under
20) I was roomies with a guy who was then and after that my best friend.
I didn't learn my lesson after that. I continued the lifestyle and was arrested
several months after my release. This time I had to do a year and a half in there.
While incarcerated, I joined a gang called "Los Solidos". (The Solid Ones) That
was the tipping point in my life. The gangs symbol was in fact the smile and
frown masks...I actually have a tattoo of this symbol on my stomach...
My nephew Nelson, Myself and my brother Fernando Luis
Rivera. My brother was also a fellow gang member.
My best friend was killed violently by a rival gang member in 1993.
I kind of lost it after that.
In 1994, my involvement with this gang got me into some deep
trouble. This trouble almost got me the death sentence or life in
prison.
After three years of court trips and dealings with the CT justice
system, I plead guilty to conspiracy to murder charges and took a
20 years suspended after 10 year prison sentence. I did 8 1/2 of
those ten. I got out July 23rd of 2004.
My first two years out were almost a trip back. I was still involved
with the gang as well as dealing drugs. It took a major arrest of
one of my runners and a threat on my life and freedom to make me
evaluate what I needed to do if I wanted to live a normal life.
I moved to Worcester, MA August 2006. Talk about best decision I
ever made...
